A series of author talks are coming up at New Orleans Public Libraries, one in person and two virtual.

Up first is New York Times bestselling author Douglas Brunt, who will visit via Zoom on May 1 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. to discuss his bestselling debut nonfiction work, “The Mysterious Case of Rudolf Diesel: Genius, Power, and Deception on the Eve of World War I.”

In the book, Brunt reveals the hidden history of Rudolf Diesel, one of the world’s greatest inventors, and his mysterious disappearance on the eve of World War I.

On May 2, local author E.M. Tran will visit the Latter Memorial Library, 5120 St. Charles Ave., to discuss her debut novel, “Daughters of the New Year,” from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

In this spellbinding tale about the extraordinary women within a Vietnamese immigrant family in New Orleans, Tran explores an ancient zodiac legend that binds them together.

Then on May 8, Nina Simon will visit the New Orleans Public Library via Zoom for a virtual author talk from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. to discuss her new book, “Mother-Daughter Murder Night.”

The best-selling mystery novel follows Lana Rubicon, a high-powered businesswoman whose life is turned upside down by a cancer diagnosis. She leaves her real estate empire and plops down in a sleepy coastal town with her adult daughter and teenage grandchild. When her granddaughter is accused of murder, the Rubicon women must learn to do the one thing they’ve always resisted: depend on each other.

THE GAMES BEGIN: The library and New Orleans Game Developers are teaming up to present Study Sessions, a free series of hands-on video game development workshops for adults.

From coding to design, storytelling to sound, each workshop will be an opportunity to dive into a different topic led by a local designer, with NOGD staff to assist.

HERITAGE CELEBRATION: May is Asian-American, Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and the New Orleans Public Library will be celebrating during storytimes throughout the month.

On May 7 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., children from birth to 5 years old and their caregivers are invited to read, sing, talk, write and play together centered around AAPI history and culture at Norman Mayer Library, 3001 Gentilly Blvd., and Latter Library, 5120 St. Charles Ave.

AAPI Heritage Month Storytime will also be on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Alvar Library, 913 Alvar St., and from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Nora Navra Library, 1902 St. Bernard Ave.

TEEN TECH: The Best Buy Teen Tech Center is hosting its monthly open house on May 7 from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., when community members of all ages are welcome to discover all the center has to offer, try out all the great tech available to its members, and see what members have created.
