Dylan Blue scored twice to pace the Maine Gladiators to a 3-2 victory over the Alabama Thunder in the USA Hockey Boys 18U Tier II Tournament in Utica, New York.

The Gladiators are one of four Maine youth hockey teams competing at nationals this week.

Nikolas Smagacz scored the game-winning goal for the Gladiators late in the third period when he beat Alabama goalie Collin Jeffries (32 saves). Alex Gadbois and Nathan Metivier each had an assist in the win. Gladiators goalie Tristan Bourassa stopped 11 shots.

Colin Beech and Parker McCown scored for Alabama.

The Gladiators face Team South Dakota on Thursday at 9:15 a.m.

Boys 14U Tier II
Montana Wolves 3, Casco Bay Mariners 2: Fisher Rawlings had a goal and an assist in the second period of the Wolves’ win over the Mariners in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

John Seielstad extended Montana’s lead to 2-0 later in the second period. Cameron Bourque and Keon Fairbanks each scored an unassisted goal for Casco Bay before the second intermission.

Graysen Miller scored the game-winning goal in the third period.

Wolves goalie Cayden Gomez stopped 44 shots, while Casco Bay’s Teague Halsted made 45 saves.

Casco Bay continues pool play on Thursday at 7 p.m. against the Maryland-based Montgomery Ice Devils.

Girls 14U Tier II
Casco Bay Mariners 3, Minnesota Walleye 2:  Claudia Navrat scored the game-winning goal during the third period to lift the Mariners to victory over the Walleye in Coral Springs, Florida.

Lindsey Scheuchzer scored a goal and had an assist for the Mainers, and Logan Curry also scored. Ava Hillman netted both Minnesota goals in the second period.

Mariners goalie Alana Wheeler stopped 15 shots, and Alexandra Hagen made 30 saves in the losing effort.

The Mariners face the State Line Hawks of New York at 11 a.m. Thursday.

Boys 16U Tier II
Arizona Jr. Coyotes 6, Maine Gladiators 5:
Troy Teufel’s second goal of the game was enough for the Jr. Coyotes to hold on and defeat the Gladiators in Wayne, New Jersey.

Maine entered the third period down 5-2 but goals from Gunner Truman and Cam Plourde cut the deficit to 5-4. Teufel extended the lead to 6-4 before Truman scored his second goal.

Jackson McAuliffe, Atreyu Wesley, Landon Jans and Aidan Olshefski also had goals for Arizona. Alexander Beckwith and Alexander Newman scored for the Gladiators.

Coyotes goalie Patrick Young made 21 stops. Maine’s Caleb Morgan had 37 saves.

The Gladiators face the Atlanta Fire in pool play action on Thursday at 2 p.m.
